    Glass adhesive is a commonly used adhesive for bonding glass ceramics in building decoration. It is inexpensive and can effectively save costs. Generally divided into acidic and neutral types, these two types of glass adhesives can play a huge role in different situations.

    However, after the construction is completed, there are still many glass adhesives that should be stored before they are used up. How to store the glass glue when it is not in use? Let me introduce it to you in detail.

Storage Time

    Glass adhesive solidifies by being exposed to moisture in the air, and its storage in a sealed state is stable. However, this stability is not absolute. During the storage process of glass adhesive, the filler containing hydroxyl groups will undergo side reactions with crosslinking agents and catalysts, which will gradually consume the crosslinking agents and catalysts in the system and cause them to gradually fail.

    The phenomenon exhibited is that as the storage time of the glass adhesive prolongs, its curing performance will decrease during use. If the surface is dry and the adhesive time is prolonged, it cannot be removed, the strength deteriorates, it cannot be completely cured, and the adhesive material thickens and dries.

If this change is very weak and the curing performance of the adhesive can still meet the requirements of users and standards, we believe that the glass adhesive is still within its shelf life. If this change exceeds this limit and the curing performance of the glass adhesive does not meet the requirements, it indicates that it has expired.

Storage Temperature

From this, it can be seen that the storage period of glass adhesive is directly related to the degree of side reactions in the system. In addition to being related to the formulation and process of the system itself, the speed of side reactions is mainly directly related to temperature. The higher the storage temperature, the faster the side reaction speed, and the shorter the storage period of the product. Therefore, we have clear regulations on the storage conditions of the product, requiring that the storage temperature should not exceed 27 ℃.

Of course, the lower the storage temperature, the better. A low storage temperature (such as below 0 ℃) may cause adverse changes in the state of the adhesive.

Another factor to pay special attention to during the storage of glass adhesive is its sealing performance. The packaging materials used for glass glue (plastic bottles, soft packaging bags, etc.) must be tightly sealed. If the seal is not good, the sealant will solidify due to contact with air.
